DELIBERATE + UNAFRAID :: An Intentions Lab w/ Jen Jones

This cute little lab is a doozy in disguise, wherein instead of working with power through strength and mobility training, we brain-hack using language and declaration for creating bold, specific and attainable purpose-driven goals. I've got two and a half hours to set you up with tools to harness your demons, state your intentions and then get out of your own way. Bring a journal/something to write in, something to write WITH and get ready to gaze lovingly at your own damn fine self in the mirror, you powerful beast. Ain't nobody out there bigger than you.

UNSHAKEABLE :: A Handstand Lab w/ Justin Wolfer

We are beyond psyched and honored to welcome my teacher JUSTIN WOLFER to NLC for a full weekend of workshops this summer, starting with an afternoon of handstand play.

This lab is an inquiry into how mindset influences our physical training. While physical stillness in the handstand is impossible, we can train our mindset to be unshakeable while the body catches on. You’ll learn the anatomy of the handstand and physical exercises to prepare your joints to be strong and stable in the position. All levels are welcome and you will leave with all the tools to consistently progress in your training.

You will learn the fundamentals of good spinal health and mobility and then we will add it to a powerful flowing movement practice. This lab will be fun, informative and physically challenging for all levels of practitioners.

STRIPPED :: A Psychosomatics Lab

Be is joining us this spring for the ultimate body-as-laboratory workshop, an inquiry into the way the body physically holds and processes our contexts, traumas and memories. Psychosomatics is the science of mind-body interaction (sounds familiar, don't it?), the intricacies of the body as a shield and storehouse for our personal histories. Starting with the basest, most animalistic of physical triggers, the fight or flight response, we'll strip away the surface and see what we can start to unlock, seeing the body as both a tool and archaeological playground for discovery.

This workshop is included in the 200HRTT program, so if you're a TT participant, you're already signed up! We are opening a limited number of spaces to the public to join us for this session. Click here to sign up!

SLOW + DEEP :: The Yin Yoga Lab

We're psyched to welcome Be to our spring lab roster with SLOW + DEEP, her signature Yin yoga workshop.

As New Yorkers, we're notorious for walking fast, moving quickly and getting things done. In fact, we're experts. Often, the hardest thing for us to do is pause, notice the breath and BE with it, without needing to change or alter the present circumstance or outcome. It is when we slow down, though, that layers of our body armor soften and we are able to sink in to the depths of our true, authentic, real selves. In this YIN workshop, we will address the layers beneath the physical body by holding postures for an extended period of time to melt away tension and liberate the flow of qi that moves through the meridians of the subtle body.

YUP. Click here to sign up!

  • The relationship of WATER within the Vinyasa practice
  • The importance of the element EARTH within a Vinyasa practice

Radical Presence :: A Meditation Technologies Lab Series

We are so honored to be welcoming Ralph de la Rosa for a 4-week residency in January 2018. Ralph De La Rosa is the author of The Monkey is the Messenger: Meditation and What Your Busy Mind is Trying to Tell You (Shambhala, 2018). He is a psychotherapist and life coach who began practicing meditation in 1996 and has been teaching since 2008. He is a trauma, addiction, and depression survivor who now lives happily in Greenpoint with Emma Goldman and Henry, his two cats. He's also a real cool dude and friend of the studio and we have some matching tattoos. Workshop content below, click HERE to reserve your spot. Buy the full series for a discounted rate or you can purchase single sessions as well.

The stress and hustle of our lives too often force us to disconnect from our bodies, shut down our emotions, forsake our connection to nature and betray our deeper intentions and values. And then we wonder why we’re anxious. Or why our relationships aren’t working. Or why we can’t focus. Or sleep at night. Or figure out what we’re really meant to do with our lives.

When we turn around to reclaim that connection, something almost magical happens: we discover our innate ability to let go, to achieve true rest, and navigate our lives in profound, new ways. We reclaim our deeper nature.

Shamatha (mindfulness) meditation is the most widely practiced and scientifically studied form of meditation. This will be a four week exploration into the deeper, yet accessible aspects of shamatha meditation. Together, we will find a home in our bodies and an ability to restore and rewire our nervous systems. We will discover that the inner quietude and wakefulness we desire from meditation (that many come to believe is impossible for them) are attainable when we practice from a holistic perspective.

Please bring pen and paper. Please come prepared to meditate lying down. All workshops recorded in case you miss a class, so you will have our guided meditations to use at home.

Beginners to meditation welcome.

Those who have previously found meditation to not work for them are encouraged.

Those struggling with mental and behavioral health issues also encouraged. This will be a safe(r), trauma sensitive space.

Four Saturdays, 2 - 4pm
January 6th, 13, 20, 27
